A lesson from the Tiktok Shutdown
It's back...but we don't know for how long
As we've just seen with Tiktok, social media is fleeting. We can lose access to 1000s of hard-earned fans, all that work, connections, friends...
So, what can you do?
Start an email list.
I can hear some of you now- but Carey, I hate business emails.
Yep, so I do I sometimes. BUT, not everyone does, and it's the only way to make sure that someone who loves your company never loses touch. I also only sign up for people I make sure I don’t want to forget about.
Don't know where to start?
For content creators- try Substack.
For product-based businesses, Mailchimp, Mailer Lite, Klaviyo, and Brevo are all great companies I've used with different clients. Many of them have free tiers.
What do you send your list? New products, behind-the-scenes, upcoming sales, list-only deals, funny things related to your industry.
How do you get them on your list? Depends- a discount is usually a good enticer, but needs to be at least 20% off to make it worth it for the consumer. A freebie of some kind that would appeal to your peeps. What are others in your industry doing? Think about what makes you sign up for a list and start there.
How often do you send? Once a week. Twice a month. Once a month. Just do better than me and send at least once a month so they don't forget you! lol.
No matter what happens to the company you have your list with, you can export and take it with you to any other company!
Talk soon,
Carey
